Dust mites in your carpets

The dust mite is part of the spider and scorpion family and they generally have 8 legs.

Dust mites will make their homes in mattresses, pillows, blankets, quilts, curtains, carpets and fabric covered furniture.

The more these items come in contact with people, the more likely dust mites will be present and be able to survive.

Bleurgh!

Whether you like it or not dust mites are present in every home and year round...

These not so cuddly animals can cause allergic reactions and asthma so it is generally a good idea to get rid of them. Here are a few tips in regards to cleaning:

✵ Wash your sheets, pillows and blankets in very hot water regularly.

✵ Clean carpets and curtains. These items should be dusted and vacuumed and occasionally professionally cleaned to remove dust and dirt kept within them.

✵ Clean flooring using a damp mop or rag to remove dust. Never use a dry cloth or broom as this just stirs up dust mite allergens.
